I’m still chuckling about this one.  MJ and I are attending Thunder in the Mountains in a couple of weeks and had originally booked the entire week leading up the conference thinking we’d get some sightseeing in. 

I just got this e-mail from the manager of the hotel:

We wanted to contact you regarding your stay with us from July 16th to July 23rd.  On the weekend of July 20th, we will have an alternative lifestyle group in house that may be offensive to some people.  This group has rented out the entire hotel for that weekend, but there are some reservations like yours that are staying both during the week and the following weekend.  For these guests, we are trying to give advance warning of the nature of this group, so you will not be shocked when you are here.  If you would like to contact me to discuss this in greater detail, please feel free to return my email, or contact me at the number below.  Thank you in advance for your understanding.

I think it’s actually nice that they are preparing folks for the spectacle of a BDSM conference.  (Actually, my only experience with one is the International Mister Leather that I attended here in Chicago, but I imagine it will be very much the same atmosphere.)  Anyone not familiar with the lifestyle would wonder what in the hell was going on.  (In fact, my friend and I saw a couple of guys in town for a conference who landed in the middle of IML and wondered what planet they had mistakenly flown to…)

I replied stating that I was well aware of what was going on and thanked him for both his advance notice and their support of the conference.  While Thunder has the hotel completely booked, they do risk flack in the media and from conservative groups over letting in BDSM groups and I’m happy to see they are going out of their way to keep those who might disapprove from unknowingly butting in.

The trip is less than two weeks away and I’m starting to get a little panicked!  I always start packing way ahead of time, but this time I have no idea where we’re going.  (MJ has planned the trip in secret and even though I helped with some of the reservations, I actually have no idea what we’re doing.)

Prior to Thunder, MJ has planned a week road trip across Colorado filled with all sorts of good stuff.  I will post a travel journal and pics of our epic journey!  (I’d offer pics of Thunder, but cameras are strictly banned during the conference.)
